Modesto might surprise you with a unique and complimentary tasting option for wine enthusiasts.

Looking to expand your palate beyond the typical wine and beer tastings? Look no further than Modesto, where you can indulge in the wonderful world of olive oil tasting. Yes, you heard that right – olive oil tasting. And the best part? It’s absolutely free!

Head over to Sciabica’s California Olive Oil on Yosemite Boulevard for a unique tasting experience. Their gift shop and tasting room are open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You’ll be able to sample a variety of olive oils and discover the rich flavors and aromas that each one has to offer. It’s a truly sensory experience that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for this liquid gold.

But that’s not all – mark your calendars for the upcoming Farm2Fork Market on Friday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is a celebration of Sciabica’s 87th anniversary and promises to be a day full of food, fun, and of course, olive oil. The market will feature over 20 local artisan food-crafters, live music, and even tastings of beer, wine, and hard cider. With raffle prizes and special event sales, it’s an event you don’t want to miss.

According to Jonathan Sciabica, the CEO of Sciabica’s California Olive Oil, the market has been a staple event since 2011, with a brief hiatus during the pandemic. It was initially created to introduce people to their gift shop and tasting room, but it has now become a way for the company to show their gratitude to the community that has supported them over the years.

If you’re interested in attending the beer, wine, and cider tastings at the market, a $10 donation to MoBand is required. However, admission to the event, as well as olive oil and food sampling, is completely free. And if you find something you love, there will be plenty of products available for purchase, as well as food vendors selling their delicious creations outside.

When it comes to olive oil tasting, remember to take a sip, not a dip. The oil is poured into small cups, which you can hold in your hands to warm it slightly and release the aromatic flavors. Think of it as the healthiest shot you’ll ever take. As for what to look for when tasting olive oil, Sciabica explains that for flavored oils, it’s an intuitive experience. The fresh flavors obtained through the “agrumato-method” – where real fruits or herbs are pressed with the olives – are sure to delight your taste buds. And for varietal olive oils, you can expect a range of intensities, from buttery and sweet to peppery and bitter. With over a dozen varieties available to sample, including garlic, lemon, jalapeno, and more, there’s an olive oil for everyone.

After the market, don’t forget to check out Sciabica’s newest addition – the Track 424 Brewery. They will be hosting a B-Day Party in the Taproom on Aug. 26, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Here, you can try their craft beers, including their hazy IPA, Bright Track, and their pilsner, Chug Along. And for all you hop lovers, they’ll be introducing a new West Coast IPA called Hopomotive at the party. Just like the olive oil tastings, the beer tastings are free and available during gift shop hours. Starting from October 5, the Tap Room will be open Thursdays through Saturdays and will even offer flights of beer for purchase.

So why not take a detour on your next drive and explore the world of olive oil and craft beer at Sciabica’s in Modesto? You’ll not only enjoy a unique tasting experience but also support a family-owned business that has been producing high-quality olive oil since 1936. It’s a win-win for your taste buds and the local community.

The expansion of York distillery could potentially be hindered by the presence of ‘whiskey fungus’.

A Distillery’s Expansion Plans: A Battle Between Neighbors and a Stubborn Fungus

The owner of a distillery in York has big dreams of expanding his business, but little did he know, a group of neighbors and a mischievous fungus would become major obstacles in his path to success. Known as “whiskey fungus,” Baudoinia compniacensis has caused havoc in towns across Kentucky and Tennessee, blackening entire communities and sparking numerous lawsuits. Now, this troublesome fungus has made its way to York, near the Wiggly Bridge Distillery on Route 1.

Whiskey fungus thrives on the fumes of alcohol, making distilleries an ideal breeding ground. Confirming its presence, a sample collected by concerned neighbors revealed the sticky and hard-to-remove black fungus in York. While health officials claim there is limited research on the long-term effects of whiskey fungus exposure, the residents in this quiet town aren’t willing to take any chances, especially when it comes to the health of their children.

Adam Flaherty, a neighbor living near the distillery, said, “I’ve got young kids, and I don’t want them breathing that in for years if we don’t know if it could be detrimental to their health down the road.” David Wood, the owner of Wiggly Bridge Distillery, declined to comment on the matter. However, despite the concerns raised by the community, the distillery has applied to construct two additional whiskey houses to store their barrels.

Recently, researchers from the University of Maine conducted a study, collecting 100 samples within a one-mile radius of the distillery. Their findings confirmed the presence of whiskey fungus in multiple locations. Neighbor Marilyn Zotos pointed out, “Anything that are these large circles, these are very heavy Baudoinia spores.” In fact, the study concluded that it is highly likely that the distillery is the source of the whiskey fungus clusters in the area.

While the town planner is currently reviewing the Wiggly Bridge expansion application, a town ordinance in York prohibits any emission of dust, fumes, vapors, or gases that could harm human health, property, or leave stains on a person’s property. Arguing that the distillery is in violation of this ordinance, neighbors are urging town leaders to carefully consider the facts. “That business is in violation of the current ordinance. The testing shows they’re in violation, and if you’re in violation of a standing ordinance, you’re not supposed to be able to expand on a violation,” explained Zotos.

The fate of the Wiggly Bridge Distillery’s expansion plans now lies in the hands of the York Planning Board, who will be deciding on Thursday night at the town library whether to approve or deny the proposed expansion. As tensions rise between the distillery and its concerned neighbors, the town’s leaders face a difficult quandary. Will they prioritize the economic benefits of the distillery’s growth or the health and well-being of the community? Only time will tell.

Lexington’s craft beer reputation and legacy are enhanced by the addition of Analytical Brewing Co.

Analytical Brewing: Turning Passion into Profession in a Small Town Along Route 66

Picture this: it’s 2022, and in a cozy small town along Route 66, a group of friends are pursuing their passion for beer. Nate Poehlman, Andy Arndt, and Brian Graves, all from Hudson, Illinois, had been brewing their own beer at home for quite some time. However, it wasn’t until recently that they decided to take their love of brewing to the next level and turn it into a profession. And so, Analytical Brewing was born.

The idea of opening their own brewery had always been a dream for these three friends. Inspired by Nate’s years of experience as a home brewer, they ventured into the world of crafting their own beers. It all started during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when Andy and Brian began brewing at home. Nate joined in, and before they knew it, their hobby had transformed into something more.

Encouraged by their spouses, the trio began researching what it would take to open a brewery. They wanted to create a place where people could enjoy their homebrewed creations and carry on the sense of camaraderie and relaxation that they had experienced with friends and family. Finding the perfect location was crucial, and while Bloomington-Normal seemed like an ideal spot, it already had its fair share of craft breweries. So, they set their sights on a village called Lexington, about 15 miles away.

Lexington had already captured the hearts of the friends due to Kemp’s Upper Tap, a corner bar that had become a regular spot for their Friday night outings. They reached out to officials in both Bloomington-Normal and Lexington, and it was in the latter that they found an opportunity. Lexington Mayor Spencer Johansen was working on a revitalization effort for the town’s Main Street, with the hope of making Kemp’s an anchor establishment. A brewery fit perfectly into those plans.

“To me, this is a perfect success story,” Mayor Johansen commented. “You have three guys brewing beer out of their garage and have this vision of opening up their own brewery. They went to Bloomington-Normal and basically kind of got the cold shoulder because there are so many breweries in Bloomington already.”

Fortunately, the mayor saw the potential in Analytical Brewing and showed them a property in Lexington. A year after closing on the building, the brewery was open and running. Even Mayor Johansen, a self-proclaimed Miller Lite or PBR guy, was coming around to craft beer with the addition of Analytical Brewing in his town.

The City of Lexington had purchased several buildings from a trucking business, and the plan was to fill those spaces with small businesses. Luckily, one of these buildings was a perfect fit for Analytical Brewing. Located just east of the popular seasonal refreshment stand, Shake Shack, the brewery had ample space for people to relax outdoors and even enjoy live music shows occasionally.

Creating a comfortable environment for their customers was important to the friends. With no televisions in the taproom, the focus was on connecting with friends and family over a good beer. Analytical Brewing prided itself on its wide variety of brews, with 30 different types already available. From American IPAs to pale ales, clear beers, and pilsners, they catered to a range of tastes. Last summer, a strawberry blonde ale was introduced, and there are plans to unveil a peach ale and Octoberfest brews in the near future.

Currently, the taproom is the primary place to get Analytical Brewing products, with only a few other locations in the area, like Kemp’s, offering their beers. However, the team is working on increasing their local distribution.

What started as a passion and a hobby has now turned into a thriving business for Nate Poehlman, Andy Arndt, and Brian Graves. Analytical Brewing has not only brought quality craft beer to the small town of Lexington, but it has also become a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Cheers to turning dreams into reality, one pint at a time.

Craft beer has become a booming industry in recent years, with breweries popping up all over the country. One such brewery that is making waves in the craft beer scene is Analytical Brewing Co., located in Lexington. This small-town brewery has gained quite a following thanks to their wide variety of delicious beers and catchy names.

Speaking about their success, brewery owner Mark Graves said, “We’ve done some more focused distribution on our ales.” This focused distribution has allowed Analytical Brewing Co. to reach a broader audience and gain a reputation as a craft beer destination. With catchy monikers like Analyze This! and Son of a Wit, it’s no wonder that their beers are flying off the shelves.

But what sets Analytical Brewing Co. apart from other craft breweries? According to Graves, it’s their commitment to brewing a variety of beers true to style. Unlike some breweries that specialize in a certain type of beer, Analytical Brewing Co. believes in offering something for everyone. “We have a variety of craft beer drinkers, and we try to focus to keep them true to style,” Graves explained. This commitment to variety has certainly paid off, as beer enthusiasts from all walks of life flock to Lexington to sample Analytical Brewing Co.’s offerings.

Not only is Analytical Brewing Co. helping put Lexington on the craft beer map, but they are also contributing to the growth of the community. With their increased distribution, they are attracting visitors from near and far, who not only come to enjoy a cold pint but also explore all that the town has to offer. As more people discover the craft beer scene in Lexington, local businesses are thriving, and the town is experiencing an economic boost.

So, if you find yourself in Lexington, be sure to make a stop at Analytical Brewing Co. You’ll be greeted with a wide selection of beers, each meticulously crafted to be true to style. Whether you’re a fan of IPAs, stouts, or something in between, Analytical Brewing Co. has something to satisfy every beer drinker’s palate. And while you’re there, take the time to explore the town and discover all the hidden gems that Lexington has to offer. Cheers to Analytical Brewing Co. for putting Lexington on the craft beer map!

A wine bar called Vinoteca has been saved from administration as a private equity firm purchases it, securing 150 jobs.

Reviving Vinoteca: A Tale of Resilience and Reinvention

In a surprising turn of events, a city private equity firm has stepped in to save Vinoteca, the upmarket wine bar chain, from the brink of collapse. The London-based chain, known for its exquisite collection of fine wines and exceptional culinary experience, was facing the bleak prospects of closure due to a series of setbacks including train strikes, high energy costs, and inflation.

Last week, administrators from Interpath were called in to oversee the desperate situation. The administrators wasted no time in seeking out potential buyers who would not only be able to salvage the business but also protect the livelihoods of its 150 employees. Enter Breal Capital, a Cannon Street-based firm known for its investments in the steel industry.

Vinoteca, with its five London locations, had carved a reputable niche in the wine aficionado community since its inception in 2005. Founded by Elena Ares, Brett Woonton, and Charlie Young, the chain quickly became synonymous with quality, elegance, and a commitment to education in the world of wine. Even as administrators took over the reins, Ares, Woonton, and Young remained as directors and major shareholders, a testament to their unwavering dedication to their creation.

The acquisition by Breal Capital brings hope and renewed vision to Vinoteca. A spokesperson for the private equity firm highlighted the establishment’s exceptional wine collection and culinary offerings, ensuring that patrons can continue to indulge in the delights they have come to cherish. Additionally, the firm expressed its commitment to upholding Vinoteca’s legacy of education by organizing a series of events, workshops, and tastings led by industry experts. This dedication to fostering a deeper appreciation and knowledge of wine will certainly set Vinoteca apart in the competitive hospitality industry.

Breal Capital, despite its prior investments in the steel industry, has shown its versatility and adaptability as it expands its portfolio to include Vinoteca. Earlier this year, the firm acquired Yorkshire brewery Black Sheep, further diversifying its ventures. This move into the hospitality sector indicates a willingness to explore new opportunities and make strategic acquisitions that align with the firm’s overall objectives.

Vinoteca, like many businesses, faced a challenging year amid the pandemic. The most recent accounts, covering the period up to March 2022, revealed a loss of £2.1 million. However, the business remained resolute, acknowledging its reliance on the support of its bankers to weather the storm. Now, with the backing and resources of Breal Capital, Vinoteca can confidently navigate the post-pandemic landscape and regain its position as a leading destination for wine enthusiasts.

With its fine bars strategically located across London, Vinoteca’s revival holds promise for both locals and tourists alike. From London Bridge to Chiswick, wine lovers will once again be able to enjoy the stories that each bottle of wine has to tell. The commitment to sharing these stories remains at the core of Vinoteca’s ethos, ensuring that its legacy endures.

As we celebrate this story of resilience and reinvention, let us raise a glass to Vinoteca and its newfound lease on life. May its future be filled with continued success, culinary delights, and the joy of discovering the world of wine. Cheers!

The iconic wine shop, Sherry Lehmann, is being sued by their landlord for $3.6M in unpaid rent.

The iconic wine retailer, Sherry-Lehmann, is facing a lawsuit from its landlord over $3.6 million in unpaid rent. The landlord, Glorious Sun, is demanding that the store on Park Avenue be cleared out immediately. The shop has been closed since March when it failed to renew its liquor license. However, the lawsuit states that the rent has not been paid since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Glorious Sun, a Hong Kong-based property firm, owns the building where Sherry-Lehmann is located. The lawsuit not only targets the store but also its former owners who were signatories on the lease over the past 17 years. The complaint claims that each of the former owners is liable for the rent debt as they are “guarantors” on the lease, even if they are no longer associated with the company.

Among the former owners named in the lawsuit is Michael Aaron, whose father founded the store in 1934. Aaron sold his interest in the company in 2007 and is reportedly retired in Florida. Michael Yurch, a co-owner and president of Sherry-Lehmann from 1996 to 2013, is also named in the suit. Yurch stated that he sold all of his shares in the company ten years ago and has had no involvement with the business since.

Another defendant in the lawsuit is Chris Adams, who served as chief executive and co-owner for over a decade. Adams left the company in 2020 and has yet to be served with the lawsuit.

Sherry Lehmann and its current co-owner, Shyda Gilmer, who are also facing lawsuits from suppliers over undelivered wine and unpaid sales tax to New York state, did not respond to requests for comment.

In July, law enforcement agents raided the Park Avenue store and an office building complex owned by Glorious Sun in Pearl River, NY, where Gilmer and Sherry-Lehmann’s other co-owner allegedly moved the company’s wine storage business. Despite these legal troubles, the store on Park Avenue has remained largely unchanged since its closure in March.

According to a former employee, the owners of Sherry-Lehmann are facing financial difficulties and do not have the resources to operate the business. The employee stated that the owners cannot even afford the electric bill, raising concerns about their ability to store inventory.

The lawsuit alleges that the tenants have not removed their belongings from the premises, in violation of the lease agreement. The landlord claims that the store has failed to surrender possession of the premises and leave it in a clean condition as required.

It remains unclear what actions Glorious Sun will take regarding the Pearl River property, as their lawyer does not represent them in any matters concerning that space.

The future of Sherry-Lehmann remains uncertain as it faces multiple legal challenges and financial difficulties.

Hey there wine enthusiasts,

There’s been quite a buzz about Sherry-Lehmann lately, and we couldn’t help but share the latest update with you. Now, we know you love your rare and expensive vintages as much as we do, so imagine the panic that ensues when customers start worrying that their beloved bottles have gone missing!

According to a recent report in The Post, customers have been desperately trying to reach Sherry-Lehmann to retrieve their treasured wines from storage. The fear of loss or theft is real, my friends. It’s understandable when you invest in something so special and valuable.

But wait, there’s more! It turns out even the store’s trusted law firm, Nixon Peabody, is feeling the heat. The firm claims it hasn’t been paid by Sherry-Lehmann and has taken the drastic step of asking the court to excuse them from representing the retailer in ongoing legal matters. Whoa, talk about a legal bombshell!

Now, why are we telling you all this? Well, we believe in keeping you informed and in the loop. After all, we wine lovers need to stick together and support one another. It’s important to know what’s happening in the world of wine, especially when it concerns a renowned establishment like Sherry-Lehmann.

We understand the frustration and concern of the customers who fear for the safety of their prized possessions. Losing a rare and expensive vintage is like losing a piece of history. We can only hope that Sherry-Lehmann addresses these issues swiftly and gives their customers peace of mind. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a positive resolution.

As for Nixon Peabody, well, it’s never easy when a long-standing professional relationship hits a rocky patch. We hope they find a resolution that works for all parties involved. Sometimes, even the most trusted partnerships face challenges, and it’s a reminder that business can be a roller coaster ride.

In the end, all we can do is hope for the best and support one another. So, let’s raise our glasses, my fellow wine aficionados, and toast to the safe return of those misplaced bottles and the resolution of legal matters. Here’s to brighter days ahead for Sherry-Lehmann!

After receiving customer complaints, Costco has decided to issue refunds for Kirkland vodka.

Title: Costco Offers Full Refund for Kirkland Signature Vodka Amid Taste Complaints

Introduction:

In a recent turn of events, Costco has decided to offer full refunds for its Kirkland Signature American Vodka after hearing numerous complaints about its unpleasant taste. Although the issue does not pose any food safety risks, Costco acknowledges that the taste does not meet their quality expectations. Let’s delve into the details to understand what led to this decision.

Costco’s Response:

A spokesperson for Costco has confirmed that they will be providing refunds to customers who purchased the private label vodka between June 12 and August 10. Costco sent out an email to all affected customers, informing them of the refund policy. The email stated, “It has come to our attention that the taste profile of units marked with certain lot codes may not have met the expected profile normally consistent with this product. While not a food safety issue, this does not meet our quality expectations.” The company has also clarified that the specific lot codes causing the issue are no longer available in the market.

Customer Complaints:

Prior to the refund announcement, dissatisfied customers voiced their concerns on various Reddit threads. Users expressed disappointment about the quality of the Kirkland vodka and questioned the reasons behind the sudden change. Complaints included descriptions of the vodka having a “weird chemical taste” and comparing it to “No. 2 diesel fuel.” Some even shared their personal anecdotes of pouring out their drinks due to the unpleasant smell and taste, despite being loyal customers for years.

The Missing Explanation:

While Costco has taken swift action to address customer concerns, they have not provided an explanation for the altered taste of the vodka. Customers and industry observers were left speculating about the reasons behind the sudden change in quality. However, Costco’s decision to issue refunds indicates their commitment to customer satisfaction and maintaining their high-quality standards.

Costco’s New Protocol:

This incident follows Costco’s recent implementation of a photo-verification system at their self-checkout kiosks. The system was introduced after the company noticed an increase in membership card sharing among non-members. Costco aims to prevent non-members from accessing the same benefits and pricing as their loyal members. The new protocol requires all members to present a membership card with a photo at the self-checkout. In cases where membership cards lack photos, a valid identification card will be required to verify the shopper’s identity.

Conclusion:

Costco’s decision to offer refunds for Kirkland Signature American Vodka showcases their dedication to maintaining customer satisfaction and their commitment to high-quality products. While the reason behind the unpleasant taste remains a mystery, Costco’s swift response highlights their willingness to address customer concerns promptly. As a customer-centric company, Costco is focused on providing the best experience for their members and ensuring that their products meet the highest standards.

Here’s an alternative way to phrase the sentence: – Discover a refreshing variation of the classic Whiskey Sour: the Bourbon Renewal, a tangy and fruity twist.

Jeffrey Morgenthaler is an exceptional bartender who stands out from the crowd. Unlike many other famous figures in the cocktail industry who have transitioned into different roles, such as bar owners or brand ambassadors, Morgenthaler continues to work behind the bar. He understands the physical demands of tending bar, with long and late hours. Even at his level of prominence, he remains dedicated to his craft and still works regular shifts at his own bar.

Morgenthaler’s journey began in dive bars and sports bars, where he learned the art of bartending, not just cocktail making. He has since become a renowned name in the cocktail world, speaking on panels, writing books, serving as a lead judge, and popularizing innovative techniques like barrel-aging and bottled carbonated cocktails. Despite his success, he remains grounded, continuing to connect with guests and create drinks behind the bar.

One of Morgenthaler’s first creations to gain widespread recognition is the Bourbon Renewal. Invented in 2001 at the Bel Ami Lounge in Eugene, Oregon, it consists of bourbon, fresh lemon juice, creme de cassis, and bitters. The timing is worth noting as it predates the emergence of influential cocktail establishments like Milk & Honey, PDT, and Death & Co. Morgenthaler was quietly experimenting with fresh ingredients and proper balance, creating simple yet elegant cocktails that have stood the test of time.

The Bourbon Renewal is a delightful variation of the classic Whiskey Sour. The addition of creme de cassis and bitters gives it a fruity and refreshing twist, reminiscent of Dick Bradsell’s Bramble and the timeless New York Sour. The Whiskey Sour itself is already beloved for its tangy flavors, and the cassis takes it to another level, making it a perfect companion for the intense summer heat.

What sets the Bourbon Renewal apart is its simplicity and elegance. It can be effortlessly made using readily available ingredients, a testament to Morgenthaler’s skill as a genuine bartender. To make the cocktail, combine 2 oz. bourbon, 1 oz. lemon juice, 0.5 oz. simple syrup, 0.5 oz. creme de cassis, and 1 dash of Angostura Bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for six to eight seconds, then strain the mixture over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon wheel or a couple of blackberries on a pick.

When it comes to choosing the bourbon, there is no specific brand or type that reigns supreme. Morgenthaler personally leans towards sweeter options like Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, or Four Roses Small Batch, though spicier choices like Old Forrester, Bulleit, or Wild Turkey 101 also work well. Ultimately, it’s about using a bourbon that suits your preferences.

The importance of using fresh lemon juice cannot be emphasized enough. The measurements may seem a bit unconventional, but following Morgenthaler’s instructions, one ounce is recommended to achieve the desired flavor. However, feel free to be flexible and adjust according to your taste.

In conclusion, the Bourbon Renewal is a testament to Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s expertise and passion for crafting remarkable cocktails. It is a drink that embodies simplicity, elegance, and the craftsmanship of a true bartender. So, why not try your hand at creating this masterpiece and raise a glass to Morgenthaler’s enduring legacy in the cocktail world?

A New Twist on a Classic Cocktail

Creating the perfect cocktail is an art form. It requires balance, precision, and an understanding of flavors. One such cocktail that exemplifies this is the classic Bourbon Bramble. However, let’s explore an alternative approach to making this drink.

Traditionally, the recipe calls for 1.5 oz. of bourbon, 0.75 oz. of simple syrup, 0.75 oz. of creme de cassis, and a few dashes of Angostura bitters. But what if we tweaked these measurements?

Reducing the bourbon to 1 oz. will allow for a more nuanced flavor profile, making the cocktail less overpowering and more enjoyable. However, this reduction in alcohol content may necessitate a corresponding reduction in sweetness to maintain balance. Hence, we can adjust the simple syrup and creme de cassis to 0.375 oz. each.

Now, here comes the tricky part. Measuring out 0.375 oz. of anything can be quite obnoxious. So, why not take a different approach? Instead of adhering strictly to the measurements, let’s trust our instincts and add the syrup and creme de cassis to taste. After all, we individualize our cocktails to suit our preferences, and there’s no harm in experimenting.

To make the simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely. If you’re in a hurry, hot water will do the job in about 30 seconds. Otherwise, give it a few minutes. Store the syrup in the refrigerator, and it will stay good for up to a month.

Now, onto the creme de cassis. Thankfully, we have an array of delicious brands to choose from. While Lejay is a popular choice, don’t hesitate to explore alternatives like Mathilde, Giffard, or Massanez. The key is to find a creme de cassis that offers a balance of sweetness and tartness, adding a touch of acidity to the cocktail. Avoid substituting it with sweeter liqueurs like Chambord, which lack that desirable tart edge.

Lastly, let’s not forget the essential ingredient – Angostura bitters. They add a subtle spiciness and help bridge the gap between the fruity liqueurs and the oak flavors of the bourbon. While other bitters may work in a pinch, it’s best to stick with the classic Angostura for an authentic Bourbon Bramble experience.

In conclusion, while the traditional recipe is tried and true, there is always room for creativity and exploration in mixology. Don’t be afraid to deviate from the standard measurements and personalize your cocktails. Trust your palate and experiment with different brands and proportions to discover your perfect Bourbon Bramble. Cheers!

Matthew Lillard, in an exclusive interview, shares his thoughts on launching whiskey inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, his ideal gaming table, and much more.

If you buy a product or service through a link on our website, The Hollywood Reporter may receive a commission. Matthew Lillard, known for his Dungeons & Dragons adventures, is taking his love for the game to a whole new level with a line of game-inspired spirits. The actor, along with screenwriter Justin Ware and Tim Sparapan, co-founder of Blue Run Spirits, has started a new alcohol company called Find Familiar Spirits. Their debut whiskey, Quest’s End, is set to launch in October.

Quest’s End is not your average whiskey. Each bottle is part of an ongoing story, and the first four bottles are named after characters from the game: Paladin, Rogue, Warlock, and Dragon. The Paladin blend, distilled in Indiana and Kentucky, is characterized by notes of vanilla and fruit with a touch of spice. The artwork on the bottles, created by fantasy and sci-fi illustrator Tyler Jacobson, features maps and hit points, making it a truly immersive experience.

But Lillard’s love for D&D doesn’t stop at whiskey. He is also bringing the game to the small screen with a new series called Faster, Purple Worm! Kill Kill!. The show, which will air on the free ad-supported streaming channel Dungeons & Dragons Adventures, is a mix of improv and live gameplay, featuring a rotating cast of characters played by Lillard, Seth Green, Skeet Ulrich, and others. According to Lillard, the show is a great ambassador for the game and showcases the different ways D&D can be played.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lillard shared his journey with D&D, from abandoning the game as a teenager to rediscovering his love for it as an adult. He also discussed how his TTRPG company, Beadle & Grimm’s, came to be and how his gaming group has managed to stay together for almost 30 years.

Lillard’s passion for D&D is evident in everything he does, from his whiskey line to his comedy series. He even hinted at future fantasy fandom partnerships for Find Familiar Spirits, promising to bring joy and excitement to fans of different communities.

So, whether you’re a fan of D&D or just love a good whiskey, Quest’s End and Faster, Purple Worm! Kill Kill! are sure to satisfy your cravings. Grab a bottle of Paladin and gather your friends for a night of adventure and spirits. And remember, there’s no wrong way to play Dungeons & Dragons.

Rediscovering Passion and Building New Ventures

We have dedicated our entire lives to the entertainment industry, and while we have loved every minute of it, we knew it was time for something different. We craved the freedom to shape our own destinies and create something that truly resonated with our passions. This is where the concept of a Paladin came into play – someone with unwavering vision and a strong belief in their convictions. We believed that starting our story with this powerful character would set the tone for the journey ahead.

Just as our Paladin character embarks on a quest with unyielding faith, we too embarked on a journey to build something unique for fandoms. We entered into discussions with successful producers who possessed incredibly popular IPs. Our idea was to create in-world whiskeys that would tie into film and television projects, and then offer them directly to the passionate fans of these shows and communities. The potential was immense, and we were eager to explore this untapped market.

You may be wondering how we transitioned from a group of friends who have been playing Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) for over 25 years to venturing into these new companies. The answer lies in our passion and love for the game. Playing D&D has been a constant source of joy, creativity, and camaraderie for us. Our journey began when one of our friends brought the core rule books to our attention during our time at acting school in New York. We became enthralled by the game, and it quickly became a regular part of our lives.

Despite our busy lives and successful careers, we found ourselves craving something more. We were in the midst of a midlife crisis and longed for another fulfilling endeavor. That’s when the idea for Beadle & Grimm’s was born. We decided to create premium editions of tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), collaborating with renowned brands such as Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: the Gathering, and Critical Role. Our passion for fandom and success in this business led us to establish Find Familiar Spirits, a company focused on crafting premium spirits inspired by the TTRPG space.

Building Beadle & Grimm’s was no small feat. We had to balance our day jobs, be present for our families, and still find time to work on the company. As a result, we made a firm commitment to spend quality time together as a team every quarter, no matter the circumstances. These weekends were filled with games, laughter, and a sense of rejuvenation. In a world constantly buzzing with technology and never-ending work schedules, these game sessions became a sanctuary where we could reconnect with ourselves and each other.

We firmly believe that sitting around a gaming table, whether it’s a TTRPG or any other game, is the best way to spend a life. It reminds us of the joy, passion, and creativity that fuels our ventures. Playing games continually renews our commitment to Beadle & Grimm’s, Find Familiar Spirits, and our pursuit of happiness in Hollywood. It grounds us and serves as a constant reminder of our purpose.

Our Hollywood connections have also played a crucial role in our new ventures. One of our dear friends, Justin Ware, is a talented screenwriter whom we met on a movie set many years ago. We have always shared a dream of creating our own shows, and together we have pitched numerous ideas in town. While the path to success in Hollywood is often filled with challenges, our friendship and shared passion keep us pushing forward.

In essence, our story is one of rediscovery and adaptation. We have taken our years of experience in the entertainment industry, combined with our unwavering love for games, and transformed them into two thriving companies. Our journey may have started with a Paladin’s conviction, but it has evolved into something much greater – a testament to the power of following one’s passion and the joy that comes from playing games.

Making Movies and Building an Entrepreneurial Spirit

In the world of Hollywood, the process of creating shows and movies is famously challenging. As everyone in the industry knows, it can be virtually impossible to get a project together. This has led to a lot of pain and suffering for those involved, particularly when it comes to finding time in busy schedules.

The reality is that if actors were working for 50 weeks a year, there would be no time to pursue other ventures or build additional companies. The greatest struggle for artists isn’t the work itself or the effort required to bring it to life, but rather the time between jobs. This period of waiting can be detrimental to one’s mental health and overall well-being.

Early on in my acting career, I used to have daily check-ins with my agent and manager, constantly seeking updates on my career. This constant state of panic and uncertainty, whether you have work or not, can have a negative impact on every aspect of your life. It was about 10 or 15 years ago that I realized the importance of finding joy outside of acting and the Hollywood scene.

I began to explore other avenues to not only provide for my family but also to feed my own entrepreneurial spirit. This is where Beadle & Grimm’s came into the picture. I also started teaching and generating new opportunities. These endeavors allowed me to diversify my life and find fulfillment outside of acting.

As time went on, we started to see the success of Beadle and Grimm’s. It’s truly amazing to witness the impact of creating something from the ground up. Alongside this, I realized that my dream D&D table doesn’t consist of famous actors or personalities, but rather my own family. Playing the game with my kids and watching them take on heroic roles and solve problems collectively is incredibly fulfilling.

In terms of gaming essentials, simplicity is always a priority for me. Caffeine, preferably from my Nespresso machine, is a non-negotiable for those marathon gaming sessions. I also have a deep appreciation for playing in-person and Wyrmwood gaming tables provide an unmatched experience. As a player character (PC), the choice of dice can truly enhance the gaming experience, and I highly recommend Dispel Dice for their intricate designs.

When I’m the Game Master (GM), I strive to craft immersive stories, and tools like WizKids miniatures and Dwarven Forge terrain are essential. Beyond the gaming table, I have a love for understated yet stylish gear, with Imogene and Willie being a top pick. And of course, celebrating successful late-night monster-slaying sessions with Clayton & Crume rocks glasses is a must!

In conclusion, I have learned that finding joy in life requires embracing opportunities beyond acting and Hollywood. Building something from scratch, like Beadle & Grimm’s, has been a rewarding experience. Playing D&D with my family brings immense satisfaction, and I have discovered a love for various gaming essentials and stylish gear. Ultimately, pursuing these passions has brought balance and fulfillment to my life. So, Oprah, watch out!

The secrets to making the best Sangria are shared by wine experts.

Sangria, the delightful blend of wine, fruit, and liquor, hails from Spain, Portugal, and possibly the West Indies. In the United States, it has become a popular beverage for warm weather due to its refreshing qualities and the opportunity to enjoy boozy fruit. Sangria is a versatile drink, as it can be made with red, white, or rosé wine, and it pairs well with various types of fruit. While it is already delicious on its own, following expert-recommended guidelines can take your homemade sangria to the next level.

HuffPost reached out to wine experts for their tips on creating the best sangria at home, and they did not disappoint. Marcia McColl, a wine instructor at The Capital Wine School in Washington D.C., shared her love for sangria and her preference for fruity flavors. She suggests using a semi-dry red wine like House of Brown red blend or Lini 910 Lambrusco, a sparkling red. If you prefer lighter wines, McColl recommends pinot noir as well. For white wine options, she suggests Vinho Verde, available at Trader Joe’s for just $5 a bottle. Additionally, Dark Horse’s roses and pinots are great choices.

When using sparkling wine, McColl points out that the sangria already has bubbles. However, if you’re using a non-sparkling wine, you can add carbonated water to achieve a similar effect. While many recipes call for sugar and orange juice, McColl omits both. Instead, she adds an orange-flavored triple sec like Cointreau. Of course, you can still include orange or cranberry juice if you prefer. McColl’s key tip is to soak the fruit in dark liqueur for 24 hours. She suggests using bourbon, rum, brandy, port, or cognac but advises against clear liquors like vodka or tequila, as they may overpower the sangria.

Finding the right balance between tart and sweet is crucial. McColl compares making sangria to making soup, where you can substitute ingredients to suit your taste. Her preferred fruits are mangoes, but she also enjoys using peaches, strawberries, and in-season pineapple. Before adding the fruit, she cuts it into pieces but doesn’t muddle it. Mixing it with the wine after marinating allows the flavors to blend beautifully. McColl also suggests garnishing your wine glass with mint, strawberry, or an orange slice for an extra touch.

Another expert, Jeri Carter, the owner of Queen’s Reward Meadery in Tupelo, Mississippi, has been experimenting with mead and sangria. Mead is a lesser-known wine made from fermented honey, water, and fruits, which makes it ideal for sangria. Carter believes that sangria appeals to those who may not enjoy the taste of wine but like the idea of it. To make a sweeter sangria, she recommends adding a Moscato or a dash of Sprite. For a drier option, she suggests using a dry champagne or sparkling wine instead.

Carter’s preferred fruits include strawberries, blueberries, and apple chunks, but she advises against adding an orange slice, as it can make the sangria taste bitter. Each sip of sangria should be a special treat, especially when you reach the bottom of the glass and encounter the boozy fruit.

Making sangria is as simple as pouring a bottle of wine into a pitcher and adding half a cup of your chosen liquor, along with half or a third-cup of fruit. To elevate the presentation, McColl recommends garnishing your wine glass with mint, strawberry, or an orange slice.

In conclusion, sangria is a delightful beverage that allows you to explore different wine and fruit combinations. Whether you follow expert recommendations or create your own variations, the goal is to strike a balance between tart and sweet flavors. So go ahead, mix up a batch of sangria, and savor this refreshing and versatile drink all summer long.

Sangria: The Perfect Summer Drink

When it comes to making the perfect sangria, there are a few key ingredients that can make all the difference. But what if we told you there was a twist to the traditional recipe that could take your sangria game to the next level?

Instead of using liquor to soak the fruit, one sangria aficionado suggests using wine. Yes, you read that right – wine instead of liquor. According to Carter, this adds a unique flavor to the fruit that elevates the overall taste of the sangria.

But that’s not all. Carter also recommends using fresh fruit, including those that are about to go bad, instead of frozen options. However, for a fun twist, she suggests experimenting with freezing the fruit in wine to make ice cubes or a slushie.

When it comes to the choice of fruit, Carter suggests that frozen peaches might work better than fresh ones. Placing fresh peaches in the wine can make them mushy, and nobody wants a soggy peach in their sangria.

“Sangria is like making soup,” Carter explains. “Once you’ve done a little bit, you realize you can substitute ingredients and the intimidation factor goes down really quick.”

Unlike others, Carter likes to add a shot of tequila to her sangria. She admits that she was initially skeptical about the combination of tequila and wine, but after giving it a try, she was pleasantly surprised by the delicious result.

Looking ahead, Carter is considering making a spicy sangria using her own honey habanero mead. She believes that the spiciness can be diluted by adding other fruits and juices, creating a unique and refreshing flavor.

No matter what ingredients you choose to include in your sangria, one thing remains clear – it is the perfect summer beverage. With just the right amount of alcohol, it’s the ideal drink for sipping on a hot summer day.

So, the next time you’re in the mood for a refreshing drink, why not give sangria a try? You might be surprised at the endless possibilities and delicious flavors you can create. Cheers!
