Now open is Tartan House, a newly opened whiskey lounge that showcases Scotch. Here is where you can find it.
A Unique Twist on Louisville Whiskey Lounges: Introducing Tartan House
In a city known for its abundance of bourbon bars, Tartan House is breaking the mold and offering something different to whiskey enthusiasts in Louisville. Nestled near the Butchertown and NuLu neighborhoods, this new bar is setting itself apart by specializing in Scotch whiskey. With a collection of over 30 options, Tartan House is a haven for Scotch lovers.
Named after the iconic pattern associated with Scotland, Tartan House opened its doors on August 1st in a charming former house located at 1027 E. Main St. The trio behind this establishment, Jeff Knott, Peyton Beall, and Kyle Beall, joined forces to create a bar that reflects their shared passion for whiskey. Their journey began over a decade ago when Knott was working as a bartender in Pensacola, Florida, and the Beall couple became regulars. Numerous conversations and shared drinks later, the concept for Tartan House was born. Eventually, fate brought them all to Louisville, where Kyle Beall works as a nurse anesthetist and Peyton Beall found her footing in the hospitality industry at Peerless Distilling. Knott, who previously worked at Willett Distillery, was enlisted as the bar manager.
“When I think of a bar being called a house, it evokes a warmth,” said Peyton Beall. The idea of creating a welcoming atmosphere was at the center of Tartan House’s design. As you step inside this navy building, you’ll immediately notice the 1,000-square-foot space that was carefully crafted to make patrons feel right at home. The bar can accommodate up to 50 people, and various seating options are available, including a long yellow velvet couch and accent chairs. “We wanted it to feel like spooky New Orleans with an element of Scottish flair,” said Beall. The walls are adorned with funky artwork, including plaid prints, photos from Beall’s travels to Scotland, and even a taxidermized pig named “Bertie,” who serves as the bar’s mascot.
At the bar itself, you’ll find plenty of green chairs that provide an up-close view of Tartan House’s impressive whiskey selection. In addition to the familiar bourbon favorites like Maker’s Mark, Evan Williams, and Jim Beam, the shelves boast a range of Scotch bottles with intriguing names like Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Benriach, and Glenmorangie. “We want people, locals and tourists, to look at whiskey through a global lens,” Beall explained. “I think people have a thirst for something different.”
In its early stages, Tartan House will focus on delivering classic cocktails made with precision and quality. Options include well-known favorites such as the Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and Bee Keeper. If you’re in the mood for a scotch-based concoction, be sure to try the “Bobby Burns,” which combines Cocchi di Torino, benedictine, and bitters. Prices start at $12, and with the knowledgeable staff on hand, even Scotch newbies can find the perfect drink. “We really wanted to provide something different for this community,” Beall emphasized. “We don’t want it to feel pretentious. We want everyone to feel welcome and for them to form friendships and bonds with our staff.”
Tartan House welcomes customers from 4 p.m. daily. So, whether you’re a seasoned Scotch enthusiast or merely curious about expanding your whiskey horizons, make sure to pay a visit to this unique and inviting establishment. Molson Coors achieves a record quarter and persists in expanding its presence in the whiskey and bourbon industry.
Molson Coors, one of the leading brewing companies, has recently made headlines with its impressive performance in the brewing industry. After the merger of two companies in 2005, Molson Coors has reported its best numbers to date, marking a significant achievement for the company. Building on this success, Molson Coors has now announced its plans to diversify its product offerings by acquiring Blue Run Spirits, a prominent whisky maker.
This strategic move aligns with Molson Coors’ vision to expand beyond the realm of beer, a decision that was made in 2020. The company aims to grow its brand portfolio and tap into new markets. According to a release from Molson Coors, net sales revenue has seen a remarkable growth of 12.1% to $3.26 billion in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the previous year. This increase can be attributed to the rising demand for premium light brands in the United States, as well as the strong performance of its flavor and above premium options both domestically and internationally.
Interestingly, it appears that some of this increased demand has come from consumers who were previously loyal to Bud Light, a competing brand. Bud Light experienced a significant decline in sales, falling by 26% in the second quarter of 2022, as a repercussion of a controversial collaboration with a transgender influencer. This setback has allowed Molson Coors to claim that its flagship products, Coors Light and Miller Lite, have now surpassed Bud Light in terms of total industry dollars, with a 50% advantage. Additionally, Coors Light and Miller Lite are also 30% bigger than Modelo Especial.
Molson Coors has been expanding its product range beyond beer since 2020, introducing offerings such as Five Trail whiskey and Barmen 1873 Bourbon. The acquisition of Blue Run Spirits marks the company’s first foray into the world of spirits. Blue Run Whisky is renowned for its exceptional quality and has garnered a loyal following. Molson Coors’ Chief Commercial Officer Michelle St. Jacques expressed her excitement for this new venture, stating, “Molson Coors has been on a journey to broaden beyond our beer roots and build powerful brands in growing categories, and Blue Run joining us is an exciting next step as we establish Coors Spirits Co.”
Molson Coors’ recent achievements underscore its commitment to growth and innovation. By capitalizing on the shifting preferences of consumers and venturing into new territories, the company is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory. As Molson Coors expands its offerings and establishes its presence in the spirits market, it is clear that the company is poised for even greater success.
Investors of Rumble (NASDAQ:RUM) have experienced a lack of profitability over the past year.
Matching the Market: Rumble Inc.’s Disappointing Year
Investing in the stock market can be a tricky endeavor. You could opt for the safe bet of buying an index fund, which matches the overall market return. However, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous and decide to purchase individual stocks, the outcome could swing in either direction – for better or worse. Unfortunately, Rumble Inc. (NASDAQ:RUM) shareholders experienced the downside risk over the last year as the share price declined by 20%. This is especially disheartening when you consider that the overall market returned a solid 4.0%. But let’s not be too quick to judge. Rumble is a relatively new listing and may still have a chance to prove itself over time.
The decline in Rumble’s share price has accelerated in recent months, dropping by 15% in just three months. With shareholders suffering losses in the long term, it’s important to examine the underlying fundamentals over that period and see if they align with the disappointing returns.
Given that Rumble has not made a profit in the last twelve months, we’ll focus on revenue growth as an indicator of its business development. Typically, companies without profits are expected to exhibit consistent revenue growth, and at a decent pace. After all, it’s difficult to have confidence in a company’s sustainability if its revenue growth is stagnant and it fails to generate profits. In the past year, Rumble saw a remarkable revenue growth of 374%. This is a strong result, outperforming many other loss-making companies. Considering this substantial revenue growth, the share price decline of 20% seems rather harsh. Our sympathies go out to shareholders who are now underwater. However, on the bright side, if Rumble can continue moving towards profitability, this kind of top-line growth could present a promising opportunity. You can find a more detailed analysis of Rumble’s balance sheet strength in our free interactive report.
Although Rumble shareholders may be disappointed by their 20% loss while the market gained 4.0% over the past year, it’s important to keep in mind that even the best stocks can sometimes struggle to outperform the market within a twelve-month period. The decline in share price that has persisted over the past three months, dropping by an additional 15%, suggests a lack of investor enthusiasm. Given the relatively short history of this stock, it would be wise to remain cautious until we see stronger business performance. A more detailed historical graph of Rumble’s earnings, revenue, and cash flow can provide a better understanding of its growth trajectory.

According to the 2023 Whiskey Masters, the bourbon ranked as the world’s best.
Eagle Rare 17 Year Old Triumphs in the 2023 American Whiskey Masters
Last week, we delved into the results of the annual Scotch Whisky Masters, but now it’s time to shift our focus to the top American whiskies from the past year. The distinguished judges have just revealed their findings, presenting a plethora of exceptional spirits across 19 diverse categories. Premium ryes, bourbons of various age statements, and Tennessee whiskey all make their appearance on this comprehensive list of winners. However, today, we’ll turn our attention to the ultimate winner, the revered “Taste Master.” It’s no surprise that, once again, Buffalo Trace takes the prestigious crown. This esteemed distillery seems to have an unrivaled touch when it comes to crafting impeccable whiskies. Master distiller Harlen Wheatley and his team are the talented artisans responsible for delivering Pappy Van Winkle to the world each autumn. Their skill and dedication have garnered awards for Weller, E.H. Taylor, Stagg, George T. Stagg, and many more.
And now, thanks to the discerning palates of this year’s American Whiskey Masters, Eagle Rare 17 Years Old has emerged as the latest champion. This particular expression is part of Buffalo Trace’s revered Antique Collection and has been annually released since 2000. Each year, there are slight variations to the flavor profile. The 2022 iteration, which won the prize, is bottled at 101-proof and aged for a remarkable 17 years and 5 months. According to the judges, this Kentucky straight bourbon boasts “a delightful malty aroma with hints of sweet coffee,” along with a “silky texture and a touch of heat and spice.” For us, the recent Eagle Rare 17 stands out for its fruit-forward character. It possesses a tangy quality reminiscent of a medley of berries, perfectly balanced with underlying peppery undertones that linger in the finish. A truly magical whisky, indeed.
Now, here’s the catch – finding a bottle of this prized elixir is no easy task. When Buffalo Trace unveils its Antique Collection each October, they list the retail price for Eagle Rare 17 at a modest $99. However, due to its exceptional quality and limited availability, it inevitably disappears from shelves even at ten times that price. In fact, some may find it listed for an infuriating $2700! Supply and demand economics dictate these exorbitant costs, and even additional accolades won’t bring down the price (Buffalo Trace amassed an astounding 25 medals at the American Whiskey Masters). So, what are your options?
You could try camping out in front of your local liquor store in early to mid-October, hoping to snag a bottle from the limited yearly allotment. But be warned – the exact day of the shipment’s arrival remains a mystery. Alternatively, you can explore the everyday version of Eagle Rare, a ten-year-old expression that shares the same base distillate as its older sibling and is readily available for $90 per bottle. Lastly, you can venture out and discover other well-aged Kentucky bourbons that, much like Eagle Rare, boast a high-corn/low-rye mashbill and hail from reputable distilleries not named Buffalo Trace. Knob Creek 15 Year is an excellent starting point, offering a similar age profile, comparable proof, and attainable at $130 per bottle.
Remember, not too long ago, whiskies like Eagle Rare 17 would collect dust on store shelves, waiting for someone to recognize their potential. Perhaps there’s another hidden gem out there right now, biding its time until it, too, enjoys the same path to superstardom. Who knows, maybe you’ll be the one to discover it?

WhistlePig recently released its inaugural straight wheat whiskey, expanding its portfolio beyond its renowned rye offerings.
Robb Report may receive an affiliate commission if you purchase a product or service through a link on our website. WhistlePig, a farm and distillery in Vermont, has gained a reputation for its high-quality rye whiskeys sourced from Canada and Indiana, which are then blended and finished in the Northeast. However, WhistlePig has also been producing its own whiskey on-site and releasing it under the FarmStock label. The newest batch of Vermont whiskeys, part of the Beyond Bonded series, brings a new addition and an interesting change from previous releases.
The initial Beyond Bonded expressions, a bourbon and a rye, were introduced in 2021 as limited releases made entirely in Vermont, from grain to bottle, with a unique twist. The bottled-in-bond designation carries certain requirements, such as being produced at one distillery during one distilling season, at least four years of aging, and a bottling strength of 100 proof. The name Beyond Bonded seemed to play on this legal marker, as the whiskey was bottled at 100.1 proof. However, some people saw this as an unnecessary and misleading marketing tactic. The latest release has adjusted the proof slightly to exactly 100, making the whiskey more “actually bonded” than “beyond bonded.”
The new batch consists of 23 barrels, with three of them being straight wheat whiskey made from 100 percent wheat mashbill. The remaining barrels include 11 rye whiskey barrels (made from 100 percent rye mashbill) and nine bourbon barrels (made from a mashbill that’s 51 percent corn and 49 percent rye). WhistlePig provides extensive information about each release on its website, including details like barrel fill date, char level, grain varietal, and even soil chemistry for those who are truly interested in the intricacies of the process.
Meghan Ireland, the chief blender, described Beyond Bonded as WhistlePig’s greatest experiment, allowing them to have complete control over every aspect of the whiskey-making process on their farm. The goal is to create whiskeys that are uniquely high in quality and complexity. While these whiskeys are currently only available in Vermont at the distillery, Quechee’s tasting room, and select bars, restaurants, and stores, previous Beyond Bonded releases can be found for sale on websites like Caskers and Total Wine.

Aiken’s Whiskey Road segment exceeds capacity by 17% according to the traffic study.
Title: The Increasing Traffic Congestion on Aiken’s Whiskey Road
Introduction:
Every day, residents of Aiken, South Carolina experience the challenges of navigating through the bustling traffic on Whiskey Road. Connecting downtown Aiken to New Ellenton and the Savannah River Site, this road has become a hot spot for congestion during the morning and evening rush hours. A recent traffic study conducted by the city of Aiken’s traffic consultant reveals that a specific segment of Whiskey Road, stretching from Dougherty Road to East Gate Drive, is currently 17% over its intended capacity. In this blog post, we will delve into the findings of the study and explore potential solutions to alleviate the growing traffic congestion.
Breaking Down the Traffic Study:
Jennifer Bihl of Bihl Engineering presented the results of the traffic study to the Aiken City Council. According to the study, the intended capacity of the Whiskey Road segment in question is 36,600 cars per day. However, data collected by the South Carolina Department of Transportation shows that an average of 42,700 cars passed through the segment on a daily basis in 2022. This significant increase in traffic has raised concerns among city officials and residents alike.
Analyzing the Intersection Patterns:
To gain a better understanding of the congestion points, the traffic study includes diagrams of Whiskey Road’s intersections with Dougherty Road and East Gate Drive/Oak Grove Road. These diagrams provide insights into the morning and evening rush hour traffic counts.
Morning Traffic Patterns:
During the morning rush hour, several noteworthy figures emerge. A total of 796 cars travel northbound on Whiskey Road through the Dougherty Road intersection, while an additional 401 cars make a left turn onto Dougherty Road. On the other hand, 735 cars travel southbound, heading towards New Ellenton and the Savannah River Site, through the same intersection. Furthermore, 117 cars turn right from Whiskey Road onto Dougherty Road.
Additionally, 826 cars travel northbound on Whiskey Road through the East Gate Drive/Oak Grove Road intersection. Meanwhile, 84 cars turn left onto East Gate Drive, and two cars turn right onto Oak Grove Road. Heading southbound, 650 cars pass through the East Gate Drive intersection, with a further 272 cars turning right onto East Gate Drive. Finally, 22 cars make a left turn onto Oak Grove Road.
Evaluation of Intersection Wait Times:
Despite the overcrowding on this particular segment of Whiskey Road, the traffic study indicates that wait times at the intersections are generally acceptable. Jennifer Bihl used a grading system ranging from A to F to analyze how long cars have to wait at the intersections during rush hours. The Dougherty Road intersection received a “B” grade, while the East Gate Drive intersection received a “C” grade.
Anticipating Future Challenges:
Unfortunately, the situation could worsen over time. Bihl’s report highlights that the Whiskey Road segment between Dougherty Road and Oak Grove Road was among eight city intersections that experienced a 10% traffic increase from 2021 to 2022. This data is consistent with the population growth rate in South Carolina, where the state’s population grew by 1.7% in 2022, according to the Census Bureau. Furthermore, Aiken County’s population increased by 3.2% from 2020 to 2022, with Aiken itself observing a 1.2% population growth during the same period.
Addressing the Issue:
Recognizing the need to tackle the mounting congestion on Whiskey Road, the city of Aiken has initiated several efforts to alleviate the traffic burden. One significant project is the Powderhouse Connector, which is slated to begin construction later this year or in early 2023. This connector will be developed in two phases, with the first phase connecting Whiskey Road to an extended Centennial Drive via a planned roundabout.
Additionally, there are future plans to connect East Gate Drive to Dougherty Road, although funding for this project has not yet been secured. These proposed solutions aim to enhance traffic flow and create alternate routes to ease the strain on Whiskey Road.
Conclusion:
As Aiken County experiences rapid population growth and new developments spring up, it is essential to address the traffic congestion issues on Whiskey Road. The recent traffic study has shed light on the overcrowding of a specific segment, stressing the need for immediate action. By prioritizing infrastructure improvement projects like the Powderhouse Connector and considering additional road connections, the city of Aiken is taking proactive steps to alleviate this challenge and ensure smoother traffic flow for its residents.
Title: Navigating Aiken’s Bustling Whiskey Road and Beyond
Introduction:
Have you ever experienced the chaos of rush hour traffic on Aiken’s Whiskey Road? It’s no surprise that this bustling route connecting downtown Aiken to New Ellenton and the Savannah River Site becomes a real bottleneck during peak hours. But have you ever wondered just how busy it gets? Let’s dive into the details of a recent traffic study that sheds light on the situation.
A Closer Look at the Study:
In her report, Bihl, an expert in traffic analysis, highlights several key findings from three comprehensive studies. One ongoing feasibility study focuses on the Whiskey Road stretch between Powderhouse Road and New Ellenton. Additionally, Stantec conducted a detailed study in 2017, examining the Whiskey Road segment between South Boundary Road and Powderhouse Road. Lastly, URS conducted a survey of Dougherty Road in 2013. These studies provide valuable insights into the current and future state of Whiskey Road’s traffic flow.
Traffic Overcapacity:
According to the recent study, a particular segment of Whiskey Road has been found to be operating at an alarming 17% over its designated capacity. This overcapacity situation contributes significantly to the congestion experienced by commuters during peak hours. As a result, authorities and relevant stakeholders need to prioritize finding effective solutions to alleviate this strain on the road network.
Implications for Aiken County Council Elections:
Amidst ongoing traffic concerns, it is encouraging to see four dedicated candidates vying for the District 8 seat on the Aiken County Council. Their commitment to addressing the issues surrounding Whiskey Road and supporting business growth, crime prevention, and community development is commendable. It is essential for voters to carefully consider their motives and plans for the district as they cast their ballots.
Urban Planning Initiatives:
Recognizing the pressing need for improvements, the Aiken Downtown Development Association has recently appointed a new executive director to spearhead various revitalization projects. With fresh leadership at the helm, we can expect renewed focus on enhancing the city’s infrastructure, optimizing traffic flow, and creating a more vibrant downtown experience.
Future Developments:
The upcoming Aiken City Council meeting is set to discuss plans for the reuse of the old Aiken County Hospital site. This discussion is particularly significant as it serves as a reminder that infrastructure development is a continuous process. As residents, it is crucial for us to stay informed and engage actively in these conversations that shape our city’s future.
Conclusion:
Traffic congestion on Aiken’s Whiskey Road is a pressing issue that demands immediate attention. By analyzing the findings of various studies, it becomes evident that significant overcapacity challenges exist. Nonetheless, with dedicated individuals stepping up to address these concerns, and strategic urban planning initiatives underway, there is hope for a more efficient and connected transportation system in Aiken. Together, we can work towards creating a vibrant city that offers both convenience and quality of life for its residents and visitors alike.
Scientists are aided in their Mars mission by Scottish rocks from the Isle of Rum.
How can rocks from Scotland help Nasa? Well a group of scientist have been collecting rocks that have similarities to those that would be found on Mars. This is all part of a programme run by Nasa and the European Space Agency (ESA), called the ‘Mars Sample Return Programme’. Rocks from the Red Planet are being brought back down to Earth in 2023.
The Isle of Rum, located in Scotland, may seem like an unlikely place to find rocks that can provide valuable insights into the mysteries of Mars. However, these rocks, known as igneous rocks, have mineral and chemical qualities similar to those collected by Nasa’s Perseverance Rover during a study of an ancient lakebed on Mars.
Igneous rocks are formed when magma cools down and hardens. The rocks found on the Isle of Rum have undergone a similar process and have a comparable amount of “weathering,” which occurs when rocks break down naturally after being exposed to the climate. Although it may seem strange to compare the modern-day climate of Scotland to the conditions on Mars, billions of years ago, when these rocks were formed, the two climates would not have been so different.
Dr. Lydia Hallis, a leading scientist in the Rum sampling, explains that these rocks are an excellent comparison to one particular Martian rock sample. By examining the rocks on the Isle of Rum, scientists can gain a better understanding of what type of testing would work best on the samples brought back from Mars.
The significance of these rocks goes beyond their similarity to Martian samples. When the rocks from Mars return to Earth, they will be the first samples collected from another planet. This provides scientists with an incredible opportunity to trial their research methods and gain valuable insights into the early development and potentially even past life on Mars.
Professor Helen Williams from Cambridge’s Department of Earth Sciences expresses her excitement, stating, “It’s amazing to think that somewhere right here in the UK might be able to tell us something about the geology of a different planet.”
The collaboration between Nasa, ESA, and the scientists studying the rocks on the Isle of Rum showcases the importance of international cooperation in exploring our universe. Through this Mars Sample Return Programme, scientists are not only gaining a deeper understanding of Martian geology but also pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and paving the way for future discoveries.
In this endeavor, rocks from Scotland play a vital role, bridging the gap between two distant worlds and offering a glimpse into the mysteries of our neighboring planet. As the countdown to 2023 begins, we eagerly await the return of the Martian rocks, hoping they will unlock the secrets of Mars’ ancient past and provide valuable insights into the possibility of extraterrestrial life.
