WhistlePig Whiskey is marking the 45th anniversary of The Last Waltz with a special release of their new Rye Whiskey, known as “Robbie’s Blend.” This unique bottling is a result of an official collaboration between WhistlePig and the late Robbie Robertson. It features a 12-year-old Canadian “Old World” rye that has been finished in port, madeira, and sauternes casks.
The distillery promises that this whiskey will offer a delightful combination of sweetness and spice, with balanced notes of ripe citrus, cedar, walnut, and crushed white pepper. If you are a whiskey enthusiast or a fan of The Band, this limited edition release is a must-have.
To further commemorate the collaboration, the “Robbie’s Blend” bottles have been dipped in a special wax blend that includes melted vinyl from The Last Waltz album. This adds a unique touch and pays homage to the seminal soundtrack of the 1978 documentary.
The whiskey release is perfectly timed to coincide with the 45th anniversary vinyl re-issue of The Last Waltz. It is also aligned with the one-night-only screening of the documentary at over 600 theaters nationwide on November 5th, presented by Fathom Events. So if you are planning to attend the screening, make sure to grab a bottle of “Robbie’s Blend” to enhance the experience.
It is worth noting that although Robbie Robertson passed away in August, he was actively involved in the creation of this whiskey. The Vermont Distillery emphasizes that Robbie’s Blend was crafted under his watchful eye, blending the heartfelt notes of The Band with the complexity of three Old World Wine barrels. This collaborative approach mirrors the spirit of The Last Waltz concert itself, making this whiskey the perfect accompaniment for fans’ traditional Thanksgiving viewings of the iconic concert film and album.
If you want to get your hands on a bottle of WhistlePig 12 Year Robbie’s Blend, it is currently available for purchase on the WhistlePig website for $175 per 750ml bottle. You can also find Robertson’s whiskey at select stores in Tennessee later this fall.
For those who prefer to watch The Last Waltz from the comfort of their homes, you can now stream or download the concert film on Amazon Prime. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film captures The Band’s legendary 1976 Thanksgiving show at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. It is a must-see for any music lover.
Whether you’re a fan of The Band, The Last Waltz, or simply appreciate fine whiskey, the release of WhistlePig’s Robbie’s Blend is an exciting addition to the whiskey market.
