Portico Brewing located in Somerville has aimed to be an environmentally conscious brewery since its inception. According to Better Bev, it qualifies as a green brewery due to its strong commitment to environmental preservation.

“When most breweries start out, the focus is simply on ensuring that you have enough glassware and can produce enough beer for customers,” states Portico founder Adam Rabe. “Considering sustainability often comes later, usually around year three when things are more stable.”

Portico is dedicated to minimizing waste throughout the brewing process, utilizing renewable energy, and lowering their overall carbon emissions. Their facility is entirely powered by electricity, and they have done away with plastic cups and other disposable items.
