Filipino-Made Rum Takes the Global Stage and Returns to Local Markets

Post Views: 235

A Filipino-made spiced rum, Especia Spiced Rum, has made a notable re-entry into the local market after garnering international acclaim. Crafted from locally sourced molasses and infused with natural spices, Especia has collected 18 medals, showcasing its blend of tradition and innovation.

The rum first debuted at the San Diego Spirits Festival, where it was awarded a Double Gold, impressing judges with its distinctive aromas and smooth finish. Subsequently, Especia garnered a Gold Medal and the "Best in Category" title at the New Orleans Spirits Competition, further establishing its reputation among top spiced rums. Earlier accolades include a Silver Medal and an 82-point score at the Bartender Spirits Awards in 2022, along with an 87-point rating from European magazine Falstaff in 2023.

Aged up to seven years in ex-bourbon barrels, Especia displays a golden-amber hue with a complex aroma of cinnamon, honey, and ginger, complemented by vanilla and burnt caramel. On the palate, it offers notes of tropical fruits and baking spices followed by a smooth, lingering finish.

Especia, bottled at 40% ABV, is versatile for sipping neat, mixing in cocktails, or enjoying during celebrations. Its success is attributed in part to Tanduay, its parent company, which has been recognized as the world’s best-selling rum brand for the past eight years.

Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay’s international business development manager, expressed pride in the recognition of a Philippine brand on the global stage. "This reflects the hard work of our teams and the continued trust of our consumers worldwide," he said.

With its arrival in the Philippines, local fans can find Especia at various outlets, including Shots.ph, Shopee, Lazada, Singlemalt.ph, Travel Free retail stores, and select bars in Metro Manila.
