Beam Distills New Opportunity: Private Single Barrel Whiskey Now Available Directly to Consumers

Post Views: 560

Suntory-owned James B. Beam is set to launch a new opportunity for whiskey enthusiasts: the ability to purchase private single barrel selections of Knob Creek Bourbon and Rye directly from the distillery starting in early 2025. This initiative responds to the growing demand for unique and rare whiskey options that have become increasingly popular over the last decade.

Previously, single barrel selections from Beam were reserved for retailers and trade, making this a significant shift towards direct consumer engagement. Whiskey connoisseurs often seek out these special bottlings, which typically involve a selection process that emphasizes unique flavor profiles. Many whiskey fans participate in barrel selection trips, enhancing the experience with tours of the distillery and tastings in warehouses.

Purchasing these private barrels involves a multi-step process within Beam’s structure, which is influenced by the complex three-tier system of liquor distribution in the U.S. Interested buyers must join the Beam Private Barrel Club online to schedule their selection date. A member of Beam’s team, known as a "Legacy Ambassador," will assist in coordinating the experience.

On the selection day, buyers and up to seven guests will tour the James B. Beam Distilling Co. and then taste various bourbon or rye options. Afterward, the selected barrel will be set aside for bottling with a personalized label, expected to take 90 to 120 days.

Each barrel typically yields between 100 and 175 bottles, with prices starting around $60 per bottle. However, purchasers are required to pay for the entire barrel at once, making a $1,000 deposit at the time of booking, which can be credited towards the total cost. While current offerings commonly feature Knob Creek Bourbon at 120 proof and Knob Creek Rye at 115 proof, it remains uncertain if future selections will allow for proof modifications.

This program promises a unique and personal engagement with whiskey collecting, appealing to both long-time fans and new enthusiasts alike.
