Brett Butler, a talented mixologist from Alcomy LLC, is making waves in the Indianapolis cocktail scene with his innovative summer creations: the “Next to Last Word” and the “Peruvian Straw Hat.” With over 20 years in the hospitality industry, Butler draws inspiration from cocktail literature and local bars to craft unique drinks that celebrate the essence of summer through fresh fruits and herbs.
During his recent demonstration, Butler showcased the “Next to Last Word,” a refreshing twist on the classic Last Word cocktail. This version employs Hendrix Flora Adora gin, known for its infusion of cucumber, rose, lavender, and hibiscus flavors. The cocktail balances these floral notes with cherry liqueur and lemon, resulting in a light and slightly tart drink, perfect for warm weather. Butler enhances the experience by adding a spritz of elderflower mist, creating an aromatic layer that captivates the senses.
He also introduced the “Peruvian Straw Hat,” a vibrant cocktail featuring pisco, a traditional Peruvian brandy. This drink combines pisco with fresh strawberries, prickly pear syrup, lime juice, and Aperol, resulting in a dynamic and fruity concoction. The inspiration for this cocktail comes from Apotheke, a renowned cocktail bar in New York City. Butler adapted their Hollywood Antoinette drink, infusing it with personal touches like rhubarb bitters to elevate the strawberry and Aperol flavors.
Butler’s distinctive approach to mixology is a delightful fusion of creativity and expertise, making his cocktails a must-try for those looking to savor the tastes of summer.
